
Robots reshape the workplace in unexpected ways
Robots, or “cobots” (collaborative robots) can change the way factories are operated, how fast food is served and even how we care for our elderly family members. All this innovation won’t cancel the need for human workers, though. Dr. Lynn Wu of the Wharton School finds that “While there is some loss of jobs when firms adopt robots, increased automation leads to more new hires overall. That’s because robot-adopting firms become so much more productive that they need more people to meet the increased demand in production”.
